August 2008 saw rocketing prices of petrol and diesel, prompting an increase in the number of car owners converting their vehicles to run on cheaper LPG fuel. The amount of LPG conversions has doubled in a period of six months, resulting in installation backlogs of up to 2 months in Scotland alone.

According to the national LPG supplier Autogas, an estimated 25,000 vehicles in the UK will get an LPG conversion during 2008, more than double the total for 2007.
