The majority of petrol driven vehicles, including cars and light commercial vehicles, can be converted to run on LPG. LPG conversion is normally a fairly straightforward process. To discuss the suitability of your particular model, and to obtain a quote for LPG conversions, please contact us on 020 3222 5333.

An LPG conversion costs from about £1200 to £2200, depending on the number of cylinders in the engine and the size of the LPG tank fitted.

The LPG conversion process involves installing a small tank, usually in the area of the boot where the spare wheel would be so that boot space is not sacrificed.

It is worth noting that the petrol tank is usually left in place, and converted vehicles can be set up to run on both LPG and petrol. Since the petrol tank remains in the vehicle, you can easily switch from one fuel to the other.

Over the years three different types of LPG systems has been used. The first and least reliable LPG conversion system was single point, a rather outdated technology, mainly used in vehicles with simple management system. It was later replaced by multi-point LPD conversion system, slightly more reliable but not extremely fuel efficient. The most recent technology - the multi-point sequential LPG system – provides optimal fuel economy and is designed for modern vehicles with multipoint petrol injection engines.

Operating and running your LPG vehicle

- Start the vehicle as usual;
- The car starts on petrol and automatically switches over to LPG when the engine reaches a set temperature;
- The LPG gauge in the car (situated on the dashboard) indicates the levels of LPG fuel left in the tank;
- The car will run on LPG until the LPG tank is empty and then it switches automatically back to petrol.

Smart tips:
- Always ensure you have some petrol in your car, as your LPG car starts up on petrol before switching over to LPG;
- When taking your car on a ferry, you must have the LPG system switched off whilst on the vehicle decks;
- Service the LPG system as often as you service your car’s petrol engine.
